The examination is known as the National Council for Interior Design Qualification test. There is a required amount of education and job experience that is needed before taking the exam, usually a degree and a few years working for an interior design firm with an expert training you. The requirements vary by state, so be sure to check with your state before applying to take the test.


The best way to get experience is to apply for an interior design firm that doesn't require prior job experience. This allows you to build your portfolio so when you are ready, you can go solo and take your own clients. The more you train and help in the firm, the more you will learn. This experience is beyond valuable and will help you so much as an interior designer.
